Chemistry is a central science which helps in understanding the nature of matter, origin of life and suggests ways to use non-living things for giving comfort to life. In our daily life we are totally dependent on chemistry and chemicals. Our food, medicines, cloths, shelters, paints, dyes, paper, inks, cosmetics, soap, detergents, pesticides, beverages, fuels, plastics, rubbers, cement, fertilizers etc are made up of chemical compounds and elements. A person with a degree in chemistry has a wide choice of employment opportunities in every field of life especially in pharmaceutical and textile industry, chemical industry, oil refineries, paint industry, cement industry, clinical laboratories, beverages and food product industry, Universities, research and education department, hospitals, analytical and instrumental devices, agencies and polymer industries. The Department of Chemistry is one of the major departments of the Government Boys Degree College Skardu. The Department of Chemistry is committed to providing a positive and supportive learning and working environment. Department has highly distinguished faculty, well-equipped laboratory with state of the art practical and learning facilities. The department provides a creative and innovative atmosphere for faculty –mentored and student centered learning. Students are expected to obtain a broad understanding of chemistry and learn to think critically and communicate effectively in oral and written form. The department facilitates and trains the students of intermediate level (F.Sc Pre-engineering and Pre-medical) and graduate level (B.Sc, ADS and BS) and is committed to the advancement of highest level of theoretical and practical knowledge of Chemistry. The mission of the Chemistry Department is to provide intellectual and physical nexus of the basic Chemical sciences with a focus on curriculum which serves as an advocate and conduit for the nexus of discovery, learning and dissemination of Knowledge of chemistry among other academic units of Government Boys Degree College Skardu.
