The department of Economics was established with the start of college in 1966. It is now a well reputed teaching department in Gilgit Baltistan. The department is offering a diverse set of programs which includes Bachelor Studies in Economics (BS 4- years program), Economics in English, Economics in Urdu at intermediate level in morning and evening shifts. The department is trying its best to create environment conducive for professional excellence in instructions and application as well as academic excellence in the field of economics. A holistic understanding of global, regional, and local economic issues is the basic aim of the department. Students are encouraged to use their knowledge for the well-being of the society. They are also given chance to understand economic problem of choice and scarcity. Market operating rules such as demand and supply, public policy to regulate such rules are emphasized. Chockfull focus is given on character building, grooming and personal development of students through curricular and co-curricular activities. The teaching method at the department is a blend of theory and practice, as lectures, case studies, verbal presentations, written assignments and field visits (markets, banks, mills areas etc.) are all given due importance. Students studied from this department are normally have strong background of knowledge about economics and find better jobs in the market and are placed in well reputed government and private organizations.
